West Bengal Election 2024

MAMATA BANERJEE

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) secured a strong victory by winning 29 out of 42 seats. The BJP managed to win 12 seats, while Congress got only one. TMC’s win was driven by popular welfare schemes and strong support from the Muslim community. Despite multiple rallies by Prime Minister Modi, the BJP saw a slight decline from its previous performance. The results clearly showed that Mamata Banerjee’s TMC continues to hold a strong influence in the state.

Andhra Pradesh Election 2024

JAGAN MOHAN REDDY

2024 Assembly elections, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the incumbent Chief Minister and leader of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), faced a major electoral setback. Despite leading a strong campaign based on welfare initiatives and development projects from his previous tenure, Jagan’s party suffered a crushing defeat.

Tamil Nadu Election 2021

MK STALIN

In the April 6, 2021 elections, M. K. Stalin led the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and its Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) to a commanding victory, ending a decade of AIADMK rule. The alliance secured 159 of the 234 assembly seats, with DMK itself winning 133–134 and Stalin emerging from the “Karunanidhi shadow” to decisively claim power as Chief Minister—becoming the eighth in the state’s history—on May 7, 2021.

Delhi Election 2020

ARVIND KEJRIWAL

In the February 8, 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, Arvind Kejriwal led the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to an emphatic third term, with his party winning 62 out of 70 seats—a dominant 89% of the house—and securing 53.6% of the vote, compared to the BJP’s 38.5% and Congress’s under 5% .

Maharashtra Election 2019

UDDHAV THACKERAY

In the October 21, 2019 Maharashtra Assembly polls, Uddhav Thackeray, then-president of Shiv Sena, was pivotal in shaping post-election dynamics. Though Shiv Sena contested alongside the BJP and secured 56 of its 124 contested seats, tensions arose when Thackeray insisted on implementing a 50‑50 power-sharing formula for the Chief Minister’s post .

Uttar Pradesh Election 2017

RAHUL GANDHI

In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Rahul Gandhi, then Vice President of the Indian National Congress, played a prominent role by forming an alliance with the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP), led by Akhilesh Yadav. Marketed as a youthful and progressive partnership, the Congress-SP alliance was branded as "UP ke Ladke" (the boys of UP), aiming to challenge the dominance of the BJP.

In the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections, Nitish Kumar emerged as a central figure, leading the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) comprising the Janata Dal (United), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and the Indian National Congress. The alliance was formed to counter the growing influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.
